I'm really pleased with how these turned out, applique isn't really my thing, so this was an interesting exercise for me.
So I chose to fuse my pieces and do a little raw edge applique instead of traditional hand piecing. I can hear all the purist screaming at their computers. (please don't shout at me ... bottom lip quivers ... lol)
Although the design is drawn directly from the traditional, the utterly modern fabrics just called for a modern take on the technique. Well, that's my story and I'm sticking to it!
V, I'm hoping to get my little helper to get these in the post to you tomorrow or Saturday :-) Thanks for such a great opportunity!

love the mod/traditional twist. right up my alley!
Hey Trudi....Your way is the best way...your fabric your quilt your way....that is what I like best about quilting....I get to do as I please....Quilt police be damned!
Happy sewing with those lovely colors!
I enjoyed this so much, I'm thinking of doing a whole quilt using modern bright fabrics using traditional patterns :o)
lovely.
I'm glad we are all using different methods of applique. The variety is only going to add to the total effect of the quilt. Nice job.
Looks fabulous! I'm struggling with free motion embroidery. There seems so be too much room under the foot and it just slops all over the place. I've got a fancy machine with a stippling foot so I know it can be done. I'm clearly doing something wrong. Can anyone help me? Please?
Beautiful!!!
They're fantastic! If I could do work that neat with my machine, I might be more inclined to not do so much handwork!
Don't feel bad at all, that's how I plan on doing mine!
I love the blocks. The traditional style and attention to detail are great.
great blocks!!
Oh my goodness me, I can totally see why this would be a favourite. In the thubmnail I saw something quite traditional and then in the post, these blocks are so fresh and funky and I love that you did the raw edge applique for them. Totally gorgeous.
